The Super Powers Of Supportive Spouses

The Super Powers Of Supportive SpousesI owe so much, to so many.

Today I wish to acknowledge my supportive husband.

For those of you who don’t know Derek, he’s artist meets architect.  He’s incredibly creative and analytical.  He can let his mind wander to the moon while keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

He’s been supportive in many ways…

Like when I wanted to quit my job and start a business together.

And when I wanted to move overseas, to a country he had never even visited.

But his latest gift to me has been his ability to see in me, what I could not see in myself.

When I wanted to turn my book, Celebrate Life 365 Ways into a daily calendar and he offered me one simple suggestion…

Include an illustration to go with each quote.

I, of course, assumed he was volunteering himself for the task.  He is the artist in the family after all.  He was not.  He was encouraging me to try something new.

He was pushing me to reconsider how I had labeled myself for 34 years.

Unsure if I could pull it off, I enlisted his help.  For the last four months we have worked together, day by day.  I draw and he colors.

I now love the process of drawing.

Over the weekend, Derek once again encouraged me to go higher.  He helped me get our work on a site where the illustrations can be made into prints, posters and framed wall art.  (Check ‘em out here.)

Seeing my drawings all framed up brought a smile to my face.

Thanks to Derek I have found something new that brings me joy.  Long after this calendar is complete, I will be drawing.  I might even be taking painting classes (from the best teacher I know) in the fall.

Thanks to my supportive spouse, I’ve created 238 drawings that will circulate the internet, homes, offices and classrooms, bringing smiles to every face.

You see why I think he’s SUPER?

What a great story Monique~!~ :) I’m so happy for you guys and amazed by your wonderful skills as well as grateful to Derek for being so encouraging! You guys really do seem to suit each other, it would be really neat to get to know you guys in person and see you interact. :)

P.S. I love the new website set up you have now. My internet for the ‘sticks’ finds it much easier to deal with~!~ ;D

Oh thank you Sabrina…it’s amazing what you can do with a little encouragement! Well, if you’ve ever watched an episode of I LOVE LUCY, you’ve seen us interact. I’m always getting myself into “situations” and he’s always saying, Luuuuccccyyyyyy! Rinse and repeat, that’s our life. :-)

Thank you for the feedback about the layout. I love it too. (Derek did it.)
