About

AboutFor all who: GIVE generously, DREAM wildly and LIVE from their heart, WELCOME!

AMonika.com is where I share my passion, journey and mission.

A trip to Tirana, Albania at the age of twenty two turned into a five year journey as a volunteer in orphanages.  Needless to say, my time overseas forever changed me and how I view the world.   After traveling to seventeen countries and living on three continents, I’m ready to share my experience and integrate everything that’s important to me.

I am a lover of travel, cultures, food, playing outside and the overall savoring of life.

I believe life is meant to be enjoyed.  Whether it’s watching the sun rise over the hill or eating pineapple crepes with my husband or taking a road trip to Montenegro or feeling the evening breeze blow through my hair, each day holds the promise of joy, if we only pause long enough to notice.

Derek and I are currently living in colorful Colorado.

I recently opened Cortez Yoga and Meditation.  In between classes I write about food, share inspirational stories, confess my personal growth, and post pictures of our latest adventures.

This is my destiny.

  1. Monika,

You are talking my language with this post. It’s inspiring! It’s also modeling. I’m want to be like you, but me. I’ll be watching and looking forward to knowing you better here.

    Thank you.

What a great way of saying it! We are wanting to be more and more of ourselves and collectively it’s powerful. Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it.

  2. I Love the fine print! LOL, I’ve gotta do my new about me page…

Love your bravery gf, but my question is why Albania, why not here? There are plenty of what you seek in this neck of woods as well- just wondering, not criticizing…;)

    • Monique Alvarez says:

I have asked that question for the last six years Nancy. I suppose the best answer I have got from my own search is that it’s simply what I came here to do. I don’t know why, I just did. <3

      • Nancy Chasteen says:

I get it- it is where you feel connected, most comfortable… like a voice inside you that sings while your there. Is that close?

Can I chime in on the “Why Albania?” question? (Monika, yes, it’s me, Xhina!) I went to live in Albania in 1993 after hearing about the orphans in a church service. Didn’t know where Albania was, but I knew that was where I needed to be! Lived there from 1993-2002 & worked with many of the same orphans that Monique did. Not everyone can go to another country/culture & make it their own. I truly believe that it is a gift from God.

    • Monique Alvarez says:

HI Jean – thanks for stopping by and chiming in! I completely agree with you – it’s simply a gift.
